PRIVATE, NON-GOVERNMENT WILDLIFE RESEARCH CONSULTANTS
All the
above information applies, EXCEPT Matson's is required to
pay to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service an import fee
of $55. This amount ($U.S.) will be added to the regular
invoice for lab services.
If you are unfamiliar with CITES import
permits, please contact Matson's for information.
Matson's holds an import permit, but an additional CITES
permit may be required. CITES is an internationally agreed
upon permit process to regulate trade of parts from threatened
or endangered animals. A CITES permit is required for many
species that are classified as endangered or threatened
(all members of the bear family, cat family, river otter,
others).
WARNING:
Actual
quantities and species of teeth sent to Matson's Lab MUST
MATCH EXACTLY the quantities and species given in the accompanying
CITES permits. If these do not match, Matson's will refuse
processing of the sample until corrected permits are received.
IMPORTANT:
The CITES permit document has a “Valid
until” box in which the exporter provides the
date after which the permit is no longer valid. This date
must allow a minimum of four months for unexpected delays
in shipping, and in processing at Matson’s Lab. For
example, if the permit date is 1 January and the samples
will be sent sometime during the month of January, then
the “Valid until”
date should be 1 April or later.
If you are a privately owned consulting firm conducting
research for a government agency or institution,
please have the ministry or institution for whom the research
is being conducted send the parcel of specimens to Matson's
Lab. Specimens for government sponsored research will be
forwarded to Matson's and the $55 import fee will not be
charged.
